I have well over 100 of these devices deployed at client sites and they work very well and I have no complaints. Be sure to install the accompanying PowerChute software and USB cable. This will allow the electronics on the UPS to take over in the event of a power failure and bring your machine down gracefully. This important step is half the equation to protecting your equipment so don't skip it!

I had a good experience with APC. A few years ago lightning ran into the house & even though it was fried in the process, the APC absorbed all the damage and protected my equipment. APC replaced the Back-UPS unit for free. APC made good on their guarantee, which is great, considering how many companies would try to shirk their responsibility in the same situation. I like a company that does what it says it will do.

I am a programmer and need to keep my equipment safe- APC makes the most reliable UPS out there. This one is protecting my son's computers (laptop, desktop, printer) at college. Not only does it keep his work safe, it removes the frequent power surge/sags they get in Golden's lousy power grid (the UPS kicks in every few days). I have one in my house in Westminster, CO which hardly ever needs the UPS.

Even if you have a laptop you need one of these. The constant power fluctuations shortens the life of your electronics. Good insurance for under $20/year.

BTW, this will only last ~10 minutes with a full power outage. We rarely get more than a momentary outage so this is plenty. It saves me from rebooting everything and losing work. You need something way bigger if you have power hungry stuff which needs to stay alive.

I have more than fifty of these units operating at more than thirty clients around San Diego County. There have been NO complaints on this model and only one failure over 5 years. These are great products and American Power Conversion is an excellent company to work with from a customer support perspective. I've used American Power Conversion products for computer and audio / video equipment for the last twenty-two years with great success. EVERY piece of computer equipment needs some protection from San Diego Gas and Electric's atrocious power output. American Power Conversion's BackUPS and SmartUPS products are the best to accomplish this goal.

Protected my investment the very first day I installed it. What a luck son of a gun I was. The last battery back-up I bough was another brand that not was cheaper in price, but also cheaper in protection, performance, and durability. The data I keep and the types of storage devices I have connectd to this apparatus are very business dependent. My office took an indirect lightning strike. After I lost power I was able to close and save all of my open programs and work without having to rush. I will not buy any other make of batter back-up ever again.
