There are generic alternatives and certainly, black is pretty much black, but for consistency and keeping my printer in good working order for many, many years, I'll spend the extra money for the OEM cartridges.

I have a canon i860 printer. I frequently print my own photos using canon brand ink cartridges. Canon has a multi 4 pack ink cartridges and photo paper. This is the only ink cartridge not included in the pack. So, I like that I was able to purchase a two pack, but at the same time it would be more convenient if this cartridge was included as well in the combo pack. I purchased 9 canon brand ink cartridges in my first online order with staples. I was very pleased to use a coupon. So, I was able to stock up and buy doubles of all the ink cartridges my printer requires, except for black 3E. When I do purchase another canon brand ink cartridge, (which I will!) I will only have to buy black 3e. This is because it is the only one I do not have an extra of. I have two of each of 4 out of 5 that my printer requires. But, I will be able to recycle whatever used ink cartridges I have to receive $2 in rewards for each towards a new one. So that helps. I am pleased with, and will continue to purchase canon brand ink cartridges for my printer. I am always surprised at how well my pictures turn out as I only have my camera phone to use.

I own a canon i900d printer... i have to buy about6 carterages for this printer. if i get to print 75 sheets with out having to replace 2 or more of them i am dong good. I will have to go out and buy a whole new printer that does not take as many carterages and where the ink is not 16 dollars or more per pack. I am totally not impressed.

Ink is a ripoff on a cost per page basis. The tank is not full. Black especially needs to be full and the tank bigger.
