I have a Canon printer and it always seemed to make sense to use Canon printing ink. The printer ink itself is hard to install - need an up-to-date printer. In fact, I always have a friend or family member do it for me. I will check Consumers Report to make the best choice. It would ge difficult to reach 400 characters. I must add that it's like a car's gas gauge, I find I have time left before I lose the ink - after being warned. If and when I get a new printer, I may stick with Canon ink even if the printer is a different kind.

I only needed the ink but it was not available without the paper. There was not just the ink available so I accepted the 50 sheets of paper that I did not need.
