I needed a light-duty office printer (2-20 pages a day), I was replacing a 12 year old very expensive, very heavy duty Xerox laser that served its useful life. My experience with Canon inkjets is solid, so that was one plus in this unit's favor. I considered the very highly rated Brother mono laser as well -- but the Brother software is MacOS hostile. Canon has very solid MacOS drivers and software. The price was competitive. I wanted the auto-feeder for scanning - and on my home inkjet, the scanning software permits a "fake duplexing" function -- it scans all the pages on one side, then you manually flip the pages, and then it scans all the reverse sides... then in software if reorders the pages. I SO WISH the mono laser software had the same functionality the color inkjet had. Canon support said I was not the first to mention this. AH -- Canon support. They are great. But rarely needed. I am thrilled about this printer and I would buy it again.

Nice printer, maybe because it came with a starter cartridge I think it uses too much ink but time will tell. It is a little flimsy but for the price it is ok

Great All in One. Only drawback, initiating scan from pc requires you to setup the device for pc scanning. The old Samsung SCX-4521F did this without having to set it up on the device. Load the pages and start the scan from the pc. Contacted Canon, they said its a must to be able to scan from pc. I suggested a firmware and software update for this feature to be added/removed.

This all-in-one set up pretty easily on several windows 7 and XP machines. I tried installing software off the included CD and it went off without a hitch. I also downloaded the driver from the Canon website just to see if the version was different from the included disc (no difference). I also wanted to check out the support site to see if other users for this printer had any issues. Overall, the printer is very sleek, first print is very fast, print quality is very sharp and the scan function is very nice. Although it does have a fax function, I won't be using it. As for my dislikes - The printer is made out of a lot of plastic, its very light but feels cheap. The printer only comes with a starter toner cartridge so prepare to spend another $90 for a real cartridge.

Used Canon for years.This is not comparable to anything we have ever used.We purchased to save money on ink for ink jet since toner lasts longer.Even the scanner, when using the exact same setting "150 up to "300" does not scan as well as our older products. I didn't realize that the scanning quality could be different. Manual is confusing and I am a Manual Reader.

What I like the most about this multifunction printer is the low cost of consumables (i.e toner) and the fact that it does not need other replacement parts to function (i.e. drum, etc.). Very reasonable item.
