Chicago, IL, February 22, 2007
A continuing concern that touches one in four Chicago families and is the cause for one out of every three emergency hospital visits, is related to the pervasive problem of domestic violence. On the cutting edge of victim services, Chicago’s Family Rescue, Inc., seeks to provide a solution while providing assistance to those most impacted – women and families. Family Rescue maintains several sites throughout Chicago, one located in the new Comprehensive Domestic Violence Court of Cook County at 555 West Harrison.
To help Family Rescue expand its services, Lincolnshire (IL) -based Quill Corporation recently presented a donation to the agency, enabling them to provide comprehensive support services and shelter to victims of domestic violence -- particularly abused women and their children. With a victim base comprised of 65 percent African American, 25 percent Hispanic, 6 percent Caucasian and 4 percent Asian and biracial family members, Family Rescue provides direct service and also engages in advocacy to promote future change and facilitates violence prevention through community education.
"As an employee of Family Rescue," said Linda Sanford, Family Rescue Court Advocacy Program Coordinator, "it really makes me feel good to see a company like the Quill Corporation, choose to make a generous contribution to our agency. While Quill may donate to many other charitable causes, it is encouraging to know that we were also selected. It really boosts my morale when companies like Quill and our other contributors are concerned and supportive in our fight to end domestic violence in the community."
According to Joyce Coffee, Executive Director of Family Rescue, "This corporate support helps us reach out to more families and will allow us to help reverse this cycle of violence, which kills more than 1,000 women each year and increases by 1,500 times the risk that children will also be abused. It is our life blood."
