Cheaper in other places than Staples

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

Hi who ever is looking for this, it is a old computer. It is cheaper in other online stores than at staples. Even the $100 coupon is not worth it.

Also it is slow because of the model. It has i5 processor, which should make it faster, however, it is slow.

I am still playing around with it and I hope Staples have well rated performance products. I am willing to pay more for performance.

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

This computer works great because of the I5 processor & the 8 GB RAM. The build in Wi-Fi was a unexpected surprise but the windows 8.1 was not as easy as windows 7. With this computer I replaced a Dell Dimension 4600 I had for several years.

Decent Computer

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

Purchased this 3 days ago. My first impressions.
Expandability - Limted: You can add 1 hard drive and one 5.25 device (set up for second CD/DVD). Both MUST be SATA and use the "newer" power connection. There are no older style (white 4-pin plug) style power connections available. There ARE power connections provided to the available bays. No additional SATA cables are provided.

Second HDD - As noted above, you cann add a second HDD, but because of the way that it's oriented, you must connect using a right-angled SATA plug (not included). I haven't managed to find one locally yet.

Adding an SSD - I purchased an SSD drive at the same time as the PC (heard that it sped up booting and regular operation). Less than 40GB of space was required, so I purchased a 120BG drive. I do NOT recommend this (installing SSD) unless you are familier with PC setup. I had a hard time cloning the original drive (I had to go into BIOS and change settings to use the supplied cloning software), and ended up switching SATA connections on the motherboard, but I did manage to get it working.

Speed - Overall I'm pretty happy with the speed. MUCH quicker than my old PC and better than what I have at work. Installed MS Office 13 (standalone - not 365) and Word will start and be operational in about 1 second. I'm not sure how much having the SSD as the primary drive speeds up this process however.

Cons - About the only major complaints I have on the machine are:
1) The SD/MMC card slot is recessed too far back. With a card inserted I can't pull it back out and have to resort to using a pair of needle-nosed pliers.
2) Limited power availability. Only connectors for 2 extra items, and they are pretty much limited to the assigned bays.
3) Not including the necessary extra SATA cables - especially since the HDD needs a right-angle connector.
I was originally intending to install a second HDD, an SSD and a second DVD (from previous PC). As it stands now, I can do the SSD (in place of the DVD) and wil be adding the second HDD soon. That may change if I can find a power extension/splitter to use on the SSD.

Pros - Generally appears to be a good basic PC for light or non-gaming use. Machine is quiet and fairly attractive. Everything worked out of the box, and set-up wasn't nearly as bad as I feared it might be being unfamilier with Windows 8.1.

Overall I am very happy with PC. It has all of the standard items I was looking for, and thus far seems to be more than able to perform any tasks that I normally do.

This review does NOT reflect my opinion of Windows 8.1.

Quiet, Capable Computer

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

The Dell Inspiron runs extremely quietly and moves between various programs very quickly. The Windows 8 interface is not intuitive. However, the user interface can be reconfigured to resemble the XP system of our previous computer. The 1 TB hard drive ensures that we will never run out of storage space for photos, videos, music and other memory intensive items. The computer is also extremely light and more compact than our older Dell. Access to the USB ports is easy, yet nicely hidden when not in use. Overall, we still have a lot to learn about the functionality of the computer, but initial impression is quite positive.

Nice Machine

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

This computer can handle a lot for the price. The I-5 processor and 8 Gigs of RAM are plenty for the average computer user. It can multitask great and is very snappy to respond even with many applications or websites open at the same time.

It is also very quiet and looks pleasant. Mine came with very little extra "promotional" software installed which I like. I don't need all sorts of free trials and other programs pre installed. Just the basics.

Dell also backs it with a 1 year guarantee.

Dell Inspiron Desktop Computer 660

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

After owning five computers including a similar Dell Inspiron Desktop computer purchased three years ago, this is the best. I am not sure whether the computer boots and runs much faster than my three year old Dell computer which had a older Intel I5 single core processor and Windows 7 is because of the newer quad core I5 processor or Windows 8. The two USB 3.0 ports are noticeably faster than the USB 2.0 ports. I wish that all six USB ports would be USB 3.0.

This computer as all the Dell computers I have used over the years is very quiet.

To say the least I am pleased with is computer.

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

We started off with a Dell desktop and monitor Computer about 11 years ago. Since then we purchased another Dell desktop computer and monitor for our daughter when she graduated from High School in 2005. Two years ago we purchased a Dell laptop to be used by our kids who have been growing up and needed another to use for doing their homework and to be used when traveling and able to get internet service. Our first desktop was getting so old that we decided we finally needed to upgrade and purchase a new Desktop computer. We love our Dell computers. and are have purchased them from Staples as well as our HP Photosmart printers which we upgrade every couple of years. We also just purchased a new office chair and passport storage this past month from Staples.

Computer Update

Verified Buyer

Comments about Dell Inspiron 660 Desktop PC:

We purchased this CPU to replace our 2003 computer. it's a nice computer, the price was in range with what we wanted to spend. Easy to set up, etc. The only complaint I have found with it is when using a the CD drive, the motor runs very loud. It runs loud when I am accessing the CD and continues to hum pretty loud even when I do not have the CD drive open. So if I'm listening to music off a CD I have to hear the drone of the motor, too. Between songs it really sounds loud. Otherwise, nice machine.
