In my little home office, the grippers on the bottom do not become deadly weapons on occasions when this pad needs to be moved. IN addition to the other great qualities, I purchased this mat because I wanted to avoid the pain (literally) of those little pointed machetes that seem to be on the bottom of other brands. I use it on carpet--no problem.
