I certainly prefer Elmer's rubber cement to regular glue or paste, since it spreads easily and tends to dry flatter without making very bumps in the paper. But it IS messy, and can dry up during use and also get sticky and dry up in the bottle, even when the bottle is tightly closed.

I have used Elmer's rubber cement for decades and appreciate its many fine qualities. My only objection is that Staples no longer carries the product in sizes larger than the very small 4.1 oz. bottle. Nor can I find the rubber cement thinner they used to stock.

Long ago, learning from my lessons in life, I believe the world to be held together with tape, glue, and rubber bands. Needless to say, I keep tapes, glues, and rubber bands stored away for daily rescue missions. Keeping your sanity may depend on them! P.S. I rated myself as a "high-end shopper" only to qualify my attempts to purchase good quality, but I am also a "budget shopper", as well -- just looking for the best quality for the price like most people. One last point about rubber cement -- a major plus is that you can usually undo what you glue without damaging the items you are gluing with ease and without a lot of effort or mess!

I have used this stuff since I was a kid, and will probably use it until the day I die. It is a prerequisite every time I take on a card project - most recently my kids' Valentine's Day class cards. A little goes a long way - you just have to apply it with caution and care (not something to entrust to a five-year-old). We made over 100 cards (the old-fashioned way) applying hearts (card stock) to white card stock and it worked beautifully. You just need to stick wet cards under a heavy book to dry. The only drawback is that too much will leave a "wet mark" on whatever it is you are applying, but, with practice, it's a cinch to apply.

I am a retired elementary school teacher. I have used Elmer's cement glue for years. I only regret I could not let my students use it. It was the school's policy. I still do not let my grandchildren us it my reaon is because of the smell. As an adult I use it for my scrapebook, photo albums, and I love to put puzzle togethers and I use the glue to glue the puzzle to background cardboad to display. I can also use it on the top of the puzzle because it will not smear and it drys clear and the picture is not harmed in anyway.
