We plan to use this for an office closet. Three of us went insane trying to assemble it before we decided to return it. Never bought anything from Quill I wasn't 100% satisfied with until now. HORRIBLE PRODUCT!!

This unit is so flimsy I would not trust it to hold much and would be worried that it might fall apart or fall on someone. Not safe.

The shelves are being used for samples and catalogs. The shelves are wide enough to hold baskets for the smaller samples, as well as a large sampling of tote bags.

The ease of assembly was great.

Depending upon where they are to be used it may be a good idea to secure them to a wall.

Shop guy who repairs machines found it time consuming to assemble, and very poor material construction. He would have returned it but it would have taken to long to disassemble.

Thought the construction would have been 100 times better for the price of the unit. I ordered two and had to return them because the bars were bent and the next set had the same problem. I would not purchase these again. Buy the heavy plastic shelves instead.

First thing...make sure you're wearing gloves while assembling this product, since a sliced finger is definitely a possibility. Made of the thinnest sheet metal that could probably be legally sold, these shelves are a complete waste if you're looking for an inexpensive, sturdy product. Assembly is NOT easy, as the supports tend to bend over as you're trying to put the remaining braces on, and if you mess around with it too much, the thin metal prongs that are supposed to lock into each support will snap off. The trick is to not overdo or overthink the assembly. Take it lightly and eventually they'll go together. In the vertical configuration, the supports must be "joined" with 4 side braces to lock them together...forget about complete adjustability, as you're forced into having at least one shelf directly in the middle. Even after completing the unit, unless you have gliders on the bottom of the support legs (which are bare metal, by the way) you won't move this thing very far without it falling apart. It is advertised as having 180# per shelf capacity, and a total capacity of 900# !! Good luck...I wouldn't dare attempt to prove this claim. "Evenly distributed", as the documentation states, should be your clue as to the misleading nature of these shelves. I guarantee that after sustained use, these shelves will bow out and bend in the middle, typical of shelves with too much weight on them. On the plus side (which is very small) the shelves are relatively cheap (although I'll never buy them again) and will work for light weight items such as small boxes of parts or light plastic. I would not recommend tools, heavy binders, boxes of paper, or nearly anything that is advertised on the box that these come in. Small stuff only and you should be fine...just make sure you have time to spare, and a box of band-aids nearby just in case....you've been warned!
