I am in the process of refurbishing my library and office. I really liked the look of the HON mahogany shelves and liked that the same style came in many different sizes so that all of my shelves would match, regardless of size. I wanted higher quality than the cheap, budget shelves I already had. This project is still ongoing and requires $3500+ in shelf units to complete.

So far, I have replaced half of the shelves in the library (6 units so far) and have had problems with half of them. HON puts a stock sticker on a visible, finished surface that is not removable and it takes me 20+ minutes with various cleaning products and a razor blade to remove the adhesive. I contacted HON about this problem in a very polite email and, after receiving the automated communication confirming their receipt of my email, never received any further communication. It is obvious to me that this company does not consider customer service to be important.

In addition to the sticker problem, I also received a unit that was broken in half in the box (though there was no damage to the box.) Since there was no damage to the box and all of the pieces were securely wrapped, it appears that the pieces were put into the box broken which does not say much for HON quality control.

Staples showed their exemplary customer service by delivering a replacement unit the next day and picking up the broken one with no hassle. My Staples account manager has been excellent following up with the problems I'm having with these units.

I would expect these types of problems if I were purchasing budget shelf units, but for the money spent on these units, these issues are simply unacceptable to me. I expect better care to be taken by the manufacturer for an item in this price range. If HON had shown any concern or interest in providing customer service, I would have felt better about this product. Unfortunately, since I have started with this product, I am locked in to finishing my library with these units. However, I will be purchasing a different brand for my office.

Bottom line: I would not recommend purchasing a product from this company.
