    So far, so good

Comments about HP 12C Financial Calculator:

This is the workhorse of my business...as with many bankers and most appraisers. Unfortunately the last two units I purchased BOTH ended up with display problems. I would be able to see only the upper or lower half of the digits (doesn't make math any easier, let me tell you!). I looked everywhere for HP assistance; most blogs just reported "no help" when they encountered the same problem. I had my first HP12C for 10 years with no issues. I lost it. The second one I bought worked for less than 2 years; this time I bought an extended warranty -- JUST IN CASE. When this product works, it's like magic. But when it DOESN'T...

    Great Product

Comments about HP 12C Financial Calculator:

In my opinion this is the best of the financial calculators. The HP10 that I work with is a good calculator but isn't as good as the HP12c. The HP12c uses RPN instead of algebraic logic which is easy to learn and much more efficient when using chain calculations. The TI financial calculators that I've used require too many steps that can be difficult to remember making the possibility of errors much greater. The only downside to this calculator is it isn't made with the quality of calculators from the 1980's or 1990's. Whether it will hold up in the long run is a question that I can't answer at this time.

    Poor quality compared to original

    By Kaeup

Comments about HP 12C Financial Calculator:

I have been using an HP 12C since my grad school days in the mid-1980s. I still had the original from then until just a few years ago when it was lost (or stolen?). I am now on my second replacement. The quality of materials and workmanship is definitely lower now than it was in 1985. The first replacement worked fine for 1-2 years then started yielding inexplicable and inconsistent errors in calculations. The second replacement - which I've only had for two years or so - now has a defective #1 key. The key doesn't fully spring back up when released and has to be pressed VERY HARD to get the #1 to register at all. Obviously, this makes it very difficult to achieve any sort of speed, which is one of the main advantages of RPN. I will be getting another replacement now, sadly knowing that it, too, will probably have to be replaced within a couple of years. Because of the price, it's hardly worth pursing the matter with HP, but I'm very disappointed in the quality of the current product. I downloaded an HP 12C app for use on my iPhone. It works fine, but it lacks the tactile sensation of the real thing, so the process of using it is much slower than on the real HP 12C.

    Calculation Corrections

    By TCMR

Comments about HP 12C Financial Calculator:

I've used this product for almost 20 years for financial and accounting applications and it remains as reliable as ever. For those who referenced incorrect mortgage calculations, you have your settings programmed to calculate at the 'Beginning' of the monthly billing cycle, rather than the 'End'. To change, simply press the blue 'G' key and then the #8 key (end). In your scenario, the $200,000 mortgage at 5% interest for 30 years will result in $1,069.12 if you have it set to calculate at the Beginning cycle or will result in $1,073.68 if set to calculate at the 'End' cycle. You can toggle between Beginning and End cycles by pressing the blue 'G' key then pressing 7 (for Beginning) or 8 (for Ending).

Comments about HP 12C Financial Calculator:

This is the third HP 12c that I've purchased in my 13 years in this line of work. It replaces the first 12c I purchased in 2001, that began to have sticky keys adding doubled numbers randomly. Once you get use to the calculating process, it is easy to use.
I need 2 functioning 12c's, one in office and the other for home office & travel.

Comments about HP 12C Financial Calculator:

Sticky keys! To Temporarily fix it Reset the device by powering on while holding the minus sign. Make sure to hold the minus key for at least 10 seconds after releasing the ON button or else the sticky key syndrome returns. I wish I realized the sticky key problem sooner so I could have returned it during the one year warranty period. I also that wish they still made the scientific version that let's you delete one digit at a time instead of clearing x entirely. My 30+ year old 10c and 11c scientific calculators are FAR SUPERIOR made in USA products. They operate perfectly still to this very day. The new 12c financial calculator is completely unreliable because of the sticky key problem. For example, enter 1 2 3 then look at the screen it will indicate 112233.. BEWARE!!!
