    I have always found HP cartridges to be the most dependable in an HP printer. The color is good, they aren't messy. When I have tried others the ink leaked and made a mess. The HP cartridges are very easy to install and remove. They seem to last. The printing is great when printing documents. Although I have not been that happy with the quality of my photos, so I don't use my printer for them very often. The color doesn't turn out very accurate. Luckily that is not what I primarily use my printer for.

            I have been using HP printers and cartridges for years and would not buy anything else at this point; if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right? Super sized cartridges eliminate the early problem with color printers, that of exhausting ink quickly (with three-color cartridges I threw out or recycled cartridges with plenty of red and blue ink left in them). My current printer is a four-cartridge system that lets me replace only the color I have used up and the XL cartridges keep changes few and far between.

              Ink jet printers are a commodity item, but to find a good multi purpose machine is sometimes difficult. My HPK5400 has served my office well. The ink that this machine uses lasts a long time with the regular setting and even longer on draft mode. It does not smear, and the colors are vibrant. Not necessarily the best printer for photographs, but an ideal printer and ink combination for every day use. The XL print cartridge usually lasts about 3 months when used in a small office setting with one office worker and two students using it daily.
