I have used H.P printers for many years with very good results. I think that using a printer with only black cartridge and a color cartidge had some advantages over the four cartridge printer. the individual cartridge printer seems to go through ink very rapidly. While the color cartidge was much more expensive, the cartridge lasted much longer. I have also noted thst in the four cartridge printer, when the ink gets low, the quality of pictures rapidly deteriorates. I think H.P makes more money on the ink than it does on their printers.

I do a heaavy volume of photo printing, and I like the brillance and permanence of HP inks. I have tried refills, but black in particular doesn't match up to HP or even come close to the depth and permanence of the HP product. High marks for HP (also high(er) cost).

I like the ink but wish the yield was better. Even when I use draft and grayscale settings I do not get more copies out of the cartridge. This escalates the cost of ink for my printer. If a friend has this type of printer, I would recommend it for the quality.
