I am a scrapbooker and do many of my work digitally now. These HP cartridges last longer than the regular cartridge and therefore offer more savings. I wish they were not quite as expensive as they are. But with my Staples rewards and the cartridge recycle program, it helps bring the cost down a little. Not using a true HP cartridge does not provide the clear, sharp pictures that I want. If you are not using High Quality photo paper, it can take a bit longer to dry so I make sure I do not stack them or handle the printed portion for a while. I use Everyday photo paper thus causing me to take more care.

As you know, all the HP cartridges are ridiculously overpriced - over $120 for this one, as with the rest. The further problem is that the HP color machines do not have a 'black only' function that would allow you to print most documents and wait to replace the color cartridges. So you have to buy everything all the time.

I use the all in one printer as a back up to our large black/white copier. The color cartridges hold less than the black one and run out quickly. Running 4-6 photos can almost guarantee I run out of one of the color cartridges. I think the cartridges run low fast because the printer applies color thicker than needed for photos. I get better picture results if I choose less ink volume before printing a photo. (which also helps the cartridge to last longer.) There's little product in these plastic cartridges. It seems too pricey, especially since this HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer needs 3 color ones and 1 black one. For me, it would be better if the color ones held as much ink as the black cartridges. (I've tried the higher yield ones too...)
