I bought this one because of the two trays; payroll checks in one, paper on the other one;
the only problem is, it does not automatically change trays, so if you don't go back to tray one, you end up getting a fax on a voucher check;
I also miss the portable feeding, where I could feed one envelope and address it without having to take everything out

I have always preferred HP printers. When our 5+ year old reconditioned HP printer/scanner finally began having feed problems, it was time to buy a new one.
We settled on the HP 8600 Premium because of its legal sized scanner. I do a lot of historical research and record keeping, and was in frequent need of this size scanner for this hobby.
The printer was easyto set up and I did a lot of printing in the first week. I also did copying from the scanner bed. Quality on everything was great, printing superfast, and touch screen very intuitive. I was loving it. Unfortunately, in its first week, the unit failed and stopped working in the middle of a job. My husband tried to go online with HP, but couldn't get through to anyone to deal with the problem. He typically very patient with this sort of thing (I am not)so when he says "pack it up," we do. We took it back to Staples where we purchased it and it was cheerfully exchanged. We later found some ink leakage on a surface it was sitting on. So there could have been an ink problem. The new unit is working well. Installation of the program to my computer was simple. I did my first scan today and all went well, and printing is going well. So Boo to HP for not having a customer friendly website and Yeah! to Staples for having an easy return policy. Because of our great experience with HP printers in the past, we are hoping the first issue was just a glitch on one machine, and we'll move forward from here.

I'm normally get others to set up electronics. I did it and love it! I also like that it has two drawers to hold paper. This way I can work longer before refilling them. It also has brackets to hold paper in place and or aligned. So I haven't had any paper jams. We have a small business but I do print quite a bit of stuff daily. Love this printer/scanner/fax would diffidently recommend it to anyone.

I got this printer to replace my 8500 which I burned out. I got this unit up and running in minutes, on my network and set up for scanning directly to my computer. I don't use the fax function right now because I have eFax but may in the future. I like the more compact footprint. The new design for the two paper trays is a big improvement.

Had problems with printer 17 days after purchase, which Staples would not help with. Spent 1 1/2 hours on the phone with HP representative, who I could not understand, and ended up having a local repairman fix the issues. HP customer service did not meet my expectations!

This is my third HP OfficeJet 8000 series Pro Premium printer. After 5 years, the print heads needed to be replaced on our first OfficeJet Pro Premium 8500 909 printer so we recycled it. We moved my business OfficeJet Pro Premium 8500 910 printer to the family computer and bought this new OfficeJet Pro Premium 8600 printer. This one is quieter and since the print heads are no longer consumable, hopefully will live even longer. (Note: The 8500 909 we recycled was still working fine but between the ~$!20 cost of two new print heads and the fact that the new printer came with extra color ink cartridges, buying the new printer was only ~$100 more expensive than getting the other one up and running for another 5 years.) Print quality is very good, even on photos, but photo printing is not its strongest point. It really excels with business documents and graphics while ink consumption is incredible, with cartridges (even the start up ones) lasting a very long time. With replacement ink cartridges including black, cyan, magenta, and yellow, replacements are reasonably priced, especially for the XL high volume cartridges. Another benefit of the Premium series is the extra tray, allowing me to keep envelops in the top tray and half a ream of paper in the bottom. Between the extra paper tray and the free set of color ink cartridges, the Premium is well worth the difference in price over the pro version. Now we have both our 8500 and 8600 connected wirelessly on our home network and there is no trouble using either from any computer in the house. We can also set the printers up to scan directly to any computer directory on the network, a tremendous time saver. The document feeder is one of the most reliable I've ever used and even automatically feeds double sided documents without jamming. The automatic double sided printing also works flawlessly. Both the purchase price and the operating cost make this the best printer for the money I've ever bought as evidenced by the fact that I've bought three over the past five years. The only consideration on whether or not to buy this printer is the number of photos you plan to print and if you have room for the large footprint.

The Print Tray Selection process is inconsistent and unreliable. I purchased this printer for the multiple tray capacity in order to seamlessly print documents and envelops without having to constantly change trays and go through multiple clicks in the print menu. The sensor often misreads the contents of the tray and default settings don't seem to stick. Resetting and correcting is not intuitive. Print quality is fine and print speed is excellent. Ink costs and consumption continue to annoy.

This printer has been delivering everything I could ask for. As a small business owner, I need something relatively quick that produces good, clean documents. Having switched from another brand, I am impressed by how good even black & white documents look in comparison. Color prints are slower to come out, but they look great too. Haven't tried photos yet, but it really isn't a high priority for me as this is for business purposes.
