I've had this scanner for a couple of weeks now and so far I'm very happy with it. Installing the software from the included CD took a long time, but that wasn't a big deal. The scanner works great; it's fast, user friendly and produces quality images. The only thing I don't like about it is the size. Its literally twice as big as the scanner I was replacing. My desk at work isn't that big so it takes up a huge amount of space. Other than that I am completely satisfied with this purchase.

I use this product every day and it has reduced our paper filing by 80%. I store all the scanned documents on my computer hard drive & external as well as on-line using Carbonite. Recommend this scanner for anybody who needs documents, slides, pictures scanned and looking like the original.

I have over 3K slides that I have taken over the last 35 years and wanted to enter the digital age. This product was highly recommended by a friend (said was same quality as nikon coolscan he had before), but the reviews for being incompatable with other HP printers/scanners already installed scared me off. Well I decided to try it and there was absolutely no problem with the all in one HP printer I had (HP Officejet 8500). Not sure if it was that I followed installation instructions to the letter or HP fixed incompatable problem but no problems after using for a week. I agree it takes some time to learn the features and settings but it was only a couple of hours playing with couple of slides till I figured it out. I like the feature you can go to each slide and adjust each to get the view you want and it shows you what it will be before the final scan. I saw no problem with it. Also can fill the scanner with several pictures and software will delineate each one for you (still need to adjust crop on some). you don't have to take the slides out of their cardboard holder - software crops that out - and you can adjust the crop in preview mode.If you have another HP this will download into the HP solution center. When you open that icon up make sure to look to the left to find both HP products and click on (if I hadn't read in a review about this I may have wondered where the heck this scanner was!). Also when you scan slides, use the "scan film" in home page for scanner. gives you more options.Cons: yes there are some. It is very slow but I think most scanners are if you adjust quality of scan. I use preview and takes about 30 seconds for 16 slides and then adjust each one for color, light, cropping. Then when you scan the final it takes close to 3 minutes for each slide (I use the setting for dust, sharpness and then adjust various adjust depending on each slide). My setting is at 300%; 300 dpi - wouldn't go lower or higher due to time/not needed (was recommended by HP technical person for 300DPI)For any scanner you need to remember to clean and then clean some more your slides - just a little dust will show up big time in digital format - I never seem to get the slides perfectly clean and there is some dust in spots - the setting to remove dust doesn't clean it up. So if you want to do slides it will be a lot of work and doubt you will ever get the final product without dust particles scanned!As for color/sharpness quality of final product - it is ok (I am very fussy) and the color just isn't what you get when you view the slide but not sure if there is anything out there that will capture that sharpness of slide.Overall for the money (nikon coolscan is about $2K and told this scanner is same quality) it is a good scanner for slides. (photos are faster and simplier yet my 8500 all in one gives the same results). [...] after a week of using it will be keeping it.

Download from HP for software installation with Windows 7 is missing some components. After numerous attempts, I finally got the scanner to work with other HP software already installed on my computer but each attempt comes with about 6 error messages before it will function. After that, it will scan photos, slides and negatives, quite nicely. Slides and negatives take quite a while to process, so don't be in any hurry.

Does a good job scanning in old photos. Nice feature is scanning multiple photos in one pass. Software is better than I would have expected.

Overall I am very pleased with the scanner & software.

I only have one complaint - the software will not download the scanned photos to your computer until you end the scanning session. If you abort the session for any reason, you lose all the photos previously scanned that session. I would like to be able to see each scan as it is completed to verify its quality and scope without having to exit the scanning session.
