About Me Midrange Shopper
Comments about ELMER'S X-Acto Heavy-Duty Paper Trimmers; Wood, 18 Cutting Length:
I bought this cutter to use making fine art reproductions I sell online. I buy heavy art paper and canvas in rolls that are 17" x 40". I was working with a razor and straight edge to cut these rolls down to size for prints and found I could not get straight cuts. This product works perfect. It cuts through very heavy watercolor paper as well as canvas and a heavy backer board I use to protect my prints during shipping. It does exactly what I had hoped for! I am especially pleased it cuts perfectly through canvas. Wow!!!
Wears fast

We use this once or twice a month for regular paper and card stock. The "self sharpening" blade wore out within about 2-3 months. The first few inches of the paper are always shredded and the blade actually drags the paper out of your grasp and then the bad cut is also uneven. Would not recommend! I wouldn't care if replacement blades were sold, but now I have to spend over $100 on a new one!!!

Not So X-Acto!
By Unhappy

This paper trimmer is useless. It would not even cut one single sheet of paper. The first 2 inches of a cut are clean and then it folds or shreds the paper. Tightening all screws and bolts does not work. The blade lever is too flimsy and moves away from the base blade. Do not purchase this product.
Don't Waste Your Money

We use this product weekly to cut normal and card stock thickness paper. After own for only a few weeks, the main sizing board broke, [...]. Then the second one worked fine until about two months out and I notice that the cut wasn't exactly straight. Eventually,it just started snagging the first cm to inch of the paper being cut, and we've owned it less than year!! This is poorly made, poorly aligned product that will give out on you in a few months time with moderate use. I'm very disappointed in this product.
Not as described

I use this cutter weekly to cut bulletin inserts in half, among other uses. The design is simple and easy to use, and the permanent printed grid is very helpful. But, if I try to cut more than five pieces of paper at one time, it tears the paper instead of giving me a clean cut. It takes quite a bit of time to cut over 100 papers, five at a time. There is absolutely no way this cutter will handle up to 15 sheets of paper.

I have other X-Acto cutters, this was a larger version that I purchased however, it does not cut straight so I will be returning it for a different model.

Shreds rather than cuts

Even with less than the maximum number of sheets, the blade will shred rather than cut the paper.
