Good solid unit

Comments about EPSON Inkjet Multifunction Machines; Expression Premium XP-600 Small-in-One:
One of the reasons I bought a Epson was the great service my old color ink jet Epson (86)gave me. I think I had it for over 10 years and as long as I exercised it every week it never failed me. Compared to the HP this unit is much more substatnial; however some of the little hinges and parts on the slide and doors worry me as being a little flimsy. It would be nice if the print tray would automatically extend when you print and retract when you power it off. I like the design whereas the new paper storage is in the machine instead of sticking up in the back where the paper collects dust (I'm a casual user). I also have heard that Epson has a better print quality then HP.
Love it so far!

Does all that I expected and so much better than any other printer I've had. And I've had many. HP can't come anywhere near in quality and I've had a few of those too. I recommended it to a friend already.

Software and OS compatibility not as advertised. Wireless implementation often does not recognize black text elements.
Where was the Quality Control?

On the first day I got 12 copies out before the black ink jets jammed up. I cleaned the print head and did a nozzle check. The black ink was toast. Called customer support and got another printer a week later. I could not get a Windows test page to print. It showed only one of every 12 lines. The third printer was checked out by the factory and works well but still uses too much ink. Epson has a great customer relations department. Their factory needs to beef up their standards.

I am unable to print on my Wi-Fi network and unable to print/scan etc using my desk top. The desktop shows that it is on the network, but cannot connect. After reloading the software several times, still fails.
Set up

Set up was difficult. Had to restart computer 3x. Kept getting an error message re the set-up of the scanner part of the program. It then installed firmware and installation worked but only for a direct connection. Still working on remote/wireless printing!!!!!
I'm back.

Had another print that did have cheaper ink but didn't preform as well as my old Epson and in the long run, with no 2-sided printing feature, cost more in ink and paper. Glad to have my Epson back.

Important information about ink provided
By Phil
from Arlington, VA
The information about the installment ink is not well explained anywhere that is noticeable. The note on the box should be Highlighted and the installation instructions should include a notice about this in red ink! The retailer Should inform the buyer of this problem. In this case, they claim that all printers on the market these days present this same lack of full ink cartridges and that I was informed of this at the time of sale. Since I did understand this, I experenced a printing program that I could not correct and was advised by several experienced printer users to return the unit. I did so, and the retailer replaced the printer in exchange for a new one. There was probably no fault in the printer I exchanged, but my efforts to make it type and the time and trouble to disconnect and a ten mile trip to the dealer may have been wasted. One could argue that the dealer should have emphasized (and made an ink sale) at the time I bought the first unit, but I think both you and they could have done a better job in emphasizing this requirment
