    I may print 500 pages of black text and I find
    that I go through 2 black toners and one of each other color even
    when there not being used. Ink is the way to go.

        None of these cartriges yield the number of pages that they advertise. I don't print full pages of solid color, just standard pages with some photos and color text in them. In all cases I end up replacing the cartriges after about 100 - NOT 1,000 - sheets. the printer itself (lexmark C540DW) was inexpensive, but they rock you with cartrige expenses. I'm not happy, but I'm stuck...buyer beware!!

        Too short a life. I would personally spend the extra on a high yield cartridge. Also, the store needs to up the credit allowed for returning one of these instead of an ink jet cartridge since they are so much more expensive.

        Love this printer but the cartridges do not last for 1000 pages. No way unless they have calculated the usage with an extremely faint font. However the return cartridge program is an environmentally conscious program. Like the printer better than my old HP Color Laser Printer. So I guess I have to live with the short life of each cartridge.

          according to the stats on the lexmark 540 printer, i have printed 1044 pages and have now completely emptied 3 black cartridges, 2 yellow, 2 cyan, and 1 magenta. no fancy print jobs, just your everyday, mostly pages with just black and white words printed. never even printed one photo. the printer/ink is a ripoff and i do not recommend this printer or ink to anyone. the black cartridge says it will print up to 2500 pages...ya right!!
