Evaluation of Windows 7

A huge backwards step from XP, but better than the Vista that came on the machine, and which Microsoft really owes us a free replacement for.

About Me Value Oriented
Would have bought more copys of the software but wasn't allowed because the Staples I went to only had ONE copy and waited a week and went back and still wasn't able to buy the other copies I needed because they hadn't ordered it. Had to go somewhere else to buy what I needed
Overpriced & definately overrated...

Overpriced and Overrated. We have been forced into another upgrade which forces up to purchase new hardware. Many older legacy devices are not compatable, and are rendered useless.
Win 7 Pro fails where Linux succeeds.

I like most functions in Win7 Pro, but found that I spent a lot of money on this product, only to find that Win7 Pro. is not really backwards compatible with an Atheros (ath5k) wireless networking card in this HP laptop. 3 Windows tech support persons failed to cure the problem. It's a shame that I can't take this laptop with me, since I have to be tethered to a coax cable to gain access to the Internet. Linux can get me wireless networking, for free! But Win7 Pro can't. It's not worth the expense, only to find that this problem can't be cured by the Win Pros.

We bought Windows 7 to use on our Mac because we had some software that would only run on Windows. Now we know why we went to Mac. Every time we shut it down we get updates. Today, we tried to do a backup, and it failed. This was using windows software on a machine that only has one purchased program on it, and the rest is Microsoft as delivered plus Apple installed drivers. We reran the backup and it worked fine. It often gives erroneous error messages. (We were trying to restore to a restore point and it kept saying it had falied, we later learned it had been successful).
