this is an ethernet switch it does exactly that and seems to work flawlessly with a variety of equipment of different flavors - mac pc linux etc, printers,back up devices,storage and streaming video

Just plug into your router. Then use the ports on the Netgear first. Then the ones on your router if you need them. For a home user 5 ports should be plenty.

What a wonder, truly. And in such an attractive package. It reminded me of my first date when I opened the package to reveal a host of input options at my fingertips. Soon the devise was aglow with the hum of anticipation as the signals were received and transmitted it seemed no words were necessary as we were both thinking the same thing: what could I do to please my master? Now, when junk faxes come our way we have to pause and reflect on what might have been missed had we not met so fortuitously in the local Staples. Thankfully, our idyll of electronic nirvana has been unabashed and unabated. To be continued...
