This product was perfect for me. Using it for an older bluray player and dvr which do not have wireless ability. Easy to install and does not take up much room.

Set up is plug and play, no special experience or knowledge needed, I installed this to get extra ethernet connections for a second computer and network printer, a perfect solution, no software installation needed as an un-managed switch or install the included software to use it as a managed switch.
It has advanced features to prioritize network traffic and Virtual LAN support for Quality of Service (QoS) and port mirroring purposes.
Netgear switches has been known for well built this switch is housed in a metal case, it will last for a long long time.
my client is very happy with it. The lower model of 100MB/s is also a good choice.

I purchased this device to improve my bandwidth. My cable company tries to have me upgrade for an extra $10 a month. I said no thanks. I did the math and I'll save more $$'s in the coming months & years by buying this device. It pays for itself. What's cool about this device, is that you can hook it up to any router without a problem. This device is space saving and uses less power when not in use. What caught my eyes about this product is that you can get up to 1000MB/S from each of it 5 ports. It also comes with a CD to use if you are having difficulty or you just want to add a security, so no one can steal your banwidth. I didn't use the CD, because I didn't had any problems. My router secures everything. Lastly, I am totally happy so far with this device.

This is one of the best deals in a small network switch. You can just plug it in and use it right out of the box as an unmanaged switch, or install the included software on one of your PCs connected to the network to use it as a managed switch.

The advanced features include Quality of Service (QoS) to prioritize network traffic (essential if you are running VoIP or audio/video streaming applications on your network), Virtual LAN support (I use this to keep Audio over IP traffic separate from office use traffic at radio stations I have these installed it), Network traffic monitoring, broadcast storm control and port mirroring. It even has a basic cable test function.

The only downside is that you have to have at least one PC on your network to take advantage of the advanced features which is why I didn't give the Netgear Prosafe switch five starts, but most people have a PC based laptop that they can temporarily plug into the network to configure the switch, so this is not a deal breaker.

The case is made out of metal, something that you would normally pay a lot more money for. Netgear has built this switch to last.

i had to do my own research to figure out something i needed to know to complete the switch's setup. if not my netwworks couldn't talk to each other.
otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars for speed and ease of use.

i had to do my own research plus trial and error in order for the gs105 to operate properly in the same network as a previously installed gs108e.
problem solved. works great.
