Now far better access thru my house

By GRJM

Comments about NETGEAR® WN203 ProSafe® Wireless-N Single Access Point:

Excellent access throughout my house now that I have installed this.

I connected it to an ethernet port in a remote part of my house where I had ethernet-over-power (WD adapters at both ends) since this access point requires (and I wanted) a wired connection.

It is a little difficult to set up since I have a Linksys (192.168.0.x) and this a Netgear (192.168.1.x) device. This required a local connection to a PC and changing the IP address from DHCP to fixed IP to do the administration. Since I am geek, this is OK, but probably too hard for the average person on the street. BUT this access point is considered a BUSINESS access point and not a household/personal one.

I am satisfied, but does require some skills.

Netgear Access Point easy to set up

By Macktoomer

Comments about NETGEAR® WN203 ProSafe® Wireless-N Single Access Point:

this was easier to setup than I thought it would be. also, has multiple SSIDs for separation of signals.

You have to read the directions, but they are straightforward. I just followed the instructions and it worked fine. I used it as an access point, and not as an extender. I had it plugged into the network port in the wall. Make sure you have a computer freed up that you can use to connect to the access point so you can follow the instructions. You must configure it before you connect it to your network.

Comments about NETGEAR® WN203 ProSafe® Wireless-N Single Access Point:

I added 2 of these at each end of my house to boost signal. Be sure you use different channels and set separate SSIDs for each. They work great

Netgear Router

Comments about NETGEAR® WN203 ProSafe® Wireless-N Single Access Point:

I have purchased other routers for home and business and none have held up as well at the Netgear products that I have purchased. I have paid a pretty hefty price for some other brands and none have had the quality and longevity of the Netgear priducts. I will defiantley stick with netgear from now on.

Need IT degree to set up

By pyrochic99

Comments about NETGEAR® WN203 ProSafe® Wireless-N Single Access Point:

This is not a plug and play device. You will need to download the manual from Netgear.com in order to start the setup process. Unless you know how to interpret the language used you will not be able to get this device to work. We returned the device 2 days later after spending several hours trying to get this set-up properly.

Comments about NETGEAR® WN203 ProSafe® Wireless-N Single Access Point:

Installed in our small office. It is used to connect phones and printers to our network. The sped is quick. Install was fairly easy. I wish it came with antennae, I didn't realize that when I purchased it.

Works fine, but one caveat

By ptmcdonald

from Tall Timbers, MD

Comments about NETGEAR® WN203 ProSafe® Wireless-N Single Access Point:

Setup time from opening box to full deployment, maybe 10 minutes. Much of that was adjusting position to maximize range to various parts of the house. Some of the other reviewers who spoke of difficulties in setup may have been experiencing some confusion from expectations. Setting up ANY wireless access point requires some knowledge of networking. None of them are "out-of-the-box". But I found the setup trivial if you follow the (admitedly terse) instructions.

Only real complaint I have is that this one DOES NOT come with external antennas. It has two external SMA-RP connectors for attaching them, but they would be an extra purchase. In my case, the internal 3 dBi antenna worked fine for all but one of my devices which was at the farthest point. I purchased a pair of external omnidirectional 9 dBi antennas (about $16) and this immediately doubled the signal strength at my farthest point and problem solved. So I would say try it without buying the extrenal antennas first and see what kind of performance you get, but be aware that you may need the external antennas or a WiFi range extender depending on the size of your coverage area.

This purchase was a replacement for a LinkSys WAP that had failed after many years of service and I am getting comparable performance from this one that I got from the one it replaced so no issues there. Bottom line is reasonably priced and works well for me. Setup was easy (particularly if you are familiar with how to set one up in the first place).
