This modem is easy to install. It is practically a plug and go unit. The modem was purchased to replace a modem supplied by the phone company which did not work properly, and which the phone company could not be convinced to replace. Since instslling the modem the many disruptive disconnects experienced with the previous modem are no more. Would definitely recommend this modem.
I bought this Netgear modem as a replacement for our two-year old modem (a Motorola), and we've had daily troubles with it. Sometimes the internet won't even start, and other times it cuts out in the middle of a session.
While we are able to turn off the power on the modem, wait for a while, and get connectivity back (usually within ten minutes), we have a lot of lost productivity by having to leave whatever we were doing and wait for what amounts to a re-boot of the modem.
We haven't had this type of trouble with any of our prior modems.
I have to reboot the router frequently. I have the router on the kitchen counter, and my laptop on the kitchen table. Although the green light for the internet connection stays on most of the time ( not always, sometime it goes to red), I still have to power it off and then power it back on in order for the laptop to gain internet access.
We purchased this product weeks ago so my husband could finish a course he was taking online. It is still not working. We have made calls for customer support and cannot get anything accomplished. It's probably going back to the store!
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
I needed a modem for my vacation home DSL, and wireless network for internet and printing. I took it to my local telephone company to adust two codes (took 5 minutes), plugged it in when I got home and was up and running within 10 seconds. Excellent range. Very satisfied.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
