We use these pencils at work on the paper calendar, so we can erase entries if needed. The twist action to deliver the lead is the only real down fall, but the lead is much steadier which means not as much snap off of the lead, like the pump action pencils.

These are really good pencils! They don't constantly break like other mechanical pencils and they are cute colors. The only thing that would make them better is if they had a comfort grip.

I ordered these plus the leads. Once I received them I realized that they weren't refillable. Disposable is not eco-friendly.

The spring in the barrel makes this pencil less apt to break!

Pencil sharpeners are awful. The either don't give you a sharp point, or the lead is broken when you pull out the pencil and you have to start over. Standard "click" type mechanical pencils become toys for students--they are more interested in clicking them than in writing with them. That and the lead breaks easily wasting lead.

Enter the Sharpwriter. Low tech like a wood pencil but lasts a long time and is just boring enough to allow the student to focus on writing rather than the pencil.

The Sharpwriter has a bit of different feel to it when writing. The lead is backed up by a spring, which gives a cushion to the lead (leads to less lead breakage than a standard mechanical pencil, but I think it might take a bit of getting used to for an adult). I like now on the 'neon' sharpwriter you can see through the tube to see how much lead is left.

If I had a suggestions it would be that a version of the pencil be created with little or no "springiness" in the lead (I think papermate made such a pencil "back in the old days." But the springiness does lead to less lead breakage and may, in the long run, be very satisfying once one gets used to it.

I think that schools and parents should buy these by the truckload! Can you imagine...no more trips to the pencil sharpener and dealing with problems when the sharpener doesn't work!?! No more "play time" with the click pencils! I think at wide adoption of the Sharpwriter may lead to higher student test scores (might make an interesting research study). Anyway...buy it!
