Crazy for fountain pens$

By Artist and writer

Comments about Pilot® Metropolitan Fine Writing Fountain Pen; Silver:

This is my second Pilot fountain pen, and I absolutely love it. I have always leaned towards the Cross fountain pens, usually buying the medium as for some reason the fine quill is more expensive. However the Pilot pen medium hands down beats the Cross fountain pen medium, and I will tell you why...the Pilot pen is easier to hold and writes much nicer with a finer line than the Cross. The biggest bonus is....it's price tag is much nicer than the Cross fountain pens. Another bonus is it comes with a refillable adapter and is a piece of cake to use!

Comments about Pilot® Metropolitan Fine Writing Fountain Pen; Silver:

When I purchased this product, I was expecting to receive a calligraphic style pen. As it turns out, the bottom of the point is rounded off which creates a smooth appearance; a surprise to me but very accommodative to my writing style. The weight of the product is perfect, not too heavy and not too light. The polished metal makes for a pen that appears average for every day use until you open it up, and BAM! It's a professional foundry for signing documents with clients and contacts!

Not Bad, Writes Nice. As with all fountain pens if you shake it, drop it, ink will come out. Overall great writing pen. Definitely my favorite so far.

Don't let the low price fool you

          By sgsflyer

Comments about Pilot® Metropolitan Fine Writing Fountain Pen; Silver:

At $10 each for the fountain pen model (which isn't a big discount from original price), it seems as if this should feel like a cheap pen. It does not. I was very impressed with the weight of the pen. It was comfortable to write with, solid, and seemed well-balanced, even with the cap posted. It even came with a convertor! I almost passed it up thinking that the low price was an attempt to sell off a product that was not generating interest. It exceeded my expectations and I now have three, each in a different color. I generally prefer fine nib pens, but found the medium on this one to be more like the fine nibs I am used to.

Comments about Pilot® Metropolitan Fine Writing Fountain Pen; Silver:

Got a great price on this from Staples. Well built pen for the money. Compared to a Lamy Safari (which I also own) - this pen's nib is buttery smooth and the pen has a nicer feel (metal and some substantial "heft" to it). The only thing I don't like about it is the skinny front section. It is slippery black plastic and a little skinnier than I'd prefer. I find the Lamy grip to be more comfortable. I'm not sure which I'll end up using more on a daily basis - Lamy for the comfortable grip or this pen for Pilot's beautifully smooth nib. Time will tell.

Comments about Pilot® Metropolitan Fine Writing Fountain Pen; Silver:

Very nice quality for a "bargain" pen. I bought one for myself and one as a gift and I tested it out first--so happy I found this. Handles very nice; has a good "heft" to it while not being heavy. Writes very smoothly Do wish I didn't have to dig around so much on the Staples site to find ink cartrdiges to fit the pen, but I'll certainly stock up as I expect I'll be using this pen on a daily basis.

Comments about Pilot® Metropolitan Fine Writing Fountain Pen; Silver:

This is a fantastic fountain pen and up to the usual high standards set by Pilot. It comes with the Pilot CON-20 squeeze-type converter. I recommend upgrading to the CON-50 Piston Converter (not available at Staples), though the CON-50 does not hold as much ink as the CON-20; I still prefer the piston-style. I'm a homemade ink-maker and find that my iron gall ink works well in this pen as well as most other Pilot fountain pens (I attribute this to their excellent nib feeds). The nib can be swapped out with the Pilot Plumix and Pilot 78G nibs, if you prefer italic or other size nibs. The nib it comes with is between a fine and medium by American standards. This pen is a great value and I love how it writes. Since it's made out of brass, it is a tad on the heavy side, but it has the heft of quality. Two thumbs up!

Fantastic fountain pen. Works as well as my Pelikan, but at one tenth the price. Very smooth writer and writes a very decent line for a medium point. Highly recommended.
