My mother gifted me with about 40 years of personal correspondence between herself and her mother. I purchased this sheet fed scanner to digitize the letters to share with my siblings and our children. Some of the letters I scan as black and white PDFs', some as gray scale, and some as color PDF's. I have also scanned a few as JPEGs with very satisfactory results. My mother used a variety of stationery over the years, and I found it easy to change the scanning dimensions to the size of the paper, and cut down on the scanning time. I am very pleased that I can turn off and on the double sided scanning feature, so that the letters typed on one side go quickly, and the letters handwritten on both sides can be scanned with just one pass. The only letters that are more difficult to scan are the ones written in pencil. Those are the ones I scan as JPEGS so I can enhance them in photo editing software. I am so happy with this product, that if I wear it out I will quickly order a replacement.
