We have found that the side opening eliminates bent or folded corners compared to the top opening. And it seems to hold more pages when we mail documents.

The clasp does not line up with the hole so if you use the product for enclosing documents that you are not wanting to "seal" it is akward to secure.

I love these envelopes! It is hard to find a good envelope this size that opens on the side like this. It is so much easier to get things in and out of it from the side! I use them in files. I love the clasp to keep it closed, but am still able to reopen and close as many times as I need to. This is the perfect product for my needs. Now, if only it was cheaper....
