I have had several Brother printers. Every time I upgraded to a better or newer model, I was very happy with the results.

This particular model, however, is not so good.

It takes a long time to start printing and when it does, it is slow. Not nearly as fast as they write in the specs.

It wrinkles envelopes, so forget about using that function.

It wont recognize new cartridges when you replace them and you have to manually reset this every time you load a new one, and if you don't the annoying reminder that you are out of ink will pop up.

I feel very let down by brother and I would not recommend this printer.

I am currently looking into getting a refund and buying a different printer.

Not 100% compatible with Mac OS 10.8.2. Couldn't do firmware update with my current OS but other wise it works great!

Has iPhone print utility
Fast and quiet.
Barley draws power when in deep sleep.
The front cover is a little flimsy but not bad.

Getting $300 off brand new one and still getting one year warranty is a good deal. I gave it 4 stars because the front lid does not fully close (something is wrong with a latch) but the machine is working just as expected.

This printer got put right to work and we couldn't ask for a better small business printer. There has been hundreds of pages printed/faxed and not one jam or any trouble at all. Why spend the money for a "new in box" when that's what you get here except it's refurbished-someone couldn't set it up- this is our second Brother laser and the first black and white one we got 6 years ago is still running strong-just needed the upgrade to color and couldn't be happier.

I love this printer for our home office. Although it takes up quite a bit of space on the desk, it is so functional, it replaced two other printers, so overall, my desk is clearer. It's the easiest printer I've ever used for scanning documents straight to pdf format. On the downside, the scanner bed is a little small, and you can't put 4x6 photo paper in the manual feed slot. Those are pretty minor negatives, though. Also, Brother is the most reliable brand of printer, in my experience.
