I got this filing system so I could file my daily reports for six hotels and keep them next to my desk. At the end of the month I transfer them to a permanent storage box and start the next month. It saves drawer space and it is more convenient since it sits right next to my desk.

Should be deep enough for legal folders

The description is a little misleading. Don't get this if your using a lot of legal size folders.Great construction. Very Sturdy.

Use for home office. It's space-saving, which is important. On rollers, too, which is convenient.

Rails just a bit too narrow
On the one I bought, the rails (for hanging letter-size files) are 11 7/8" apart at their centers, and the clearance between them is 11 5/8". All my hanging files (Oxford, SCM, Pendaflex, Staples, etc), and all my other file cabinets and hanging-file boxes, are mutually compatible. They seem designed with full 12" standard distance between rail-centers, and more than 11 5/8" clearance. In fact, the *paperboard* on hanging folders can be a full 11 5/8" across, so some folders scrape against these rails if they're inserted at a true perpendicular. And once they're in, they don't slide happily unless they're at a slight diagonal. The "cradle" part of the hanging folder is not centered on the rail, so the diagonal part is holding the weight of the file. This may not bother you if you're not using this model for daily ready-at-hand filing. But that's exactly what I wanted an open-top rollable file to do...(It's possible this is just a manufacturing glitch on the one I bought, but it's a two-tier model, and the two rectangular frames have exactly the same problem.)
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
