We use this tape for all of our shipping and packing. We've found that it's a whole lot stronger than cheaper packing tapes available at Staples, both in terms of adhesion and the actual strength of the tape itself.

It is prone to splitting along the length of the tape, though, especially when applying it with a standard tape gun. The cutting edge starts a split that can continue all the way down the applied tape unless you pull it away from the cutting edge manually.

I've recently discovered that Uline offers different weights and varieties of packing tape at much lower prices, but you have to buy in bulk. People who pack or ship a lot of stuff may want to consider alternatives to Staples but if you need relatively small quantities of good tape, this is the best stuff Staples carries.

This is one of those times that a generic just can't equal the brand. I've tried other less expensive brands and they just don't work as well. 3m brand tape cuts/tears well, doesn't get tangled and stuck to itself and it does an excellent job sealing. It works well in a roller type dispenser or just used straight from the roll. I end up finding the 3m tape to be a better value since there is rarely any wasted tape. I never use any other brands any more. Staples makes it an even better value by selling it in the multi-pack.

Outstanding product. Adheres very well to cardboard and paper products: Envelopes, boxes & wood. Easy to write on with permanent marker & doesn't rub off. Strong and durable.

Staples always offers good products at good prices...this package was a bonus offer, it contained 2 extra rolls of tape!

Used this product primarily for shipping items thru USPS. It holds up to and withstands their rigorous handling.

I think 3M had a bad batch of Heavy Duty (HD) tape. We had always used it but had to switch to Premium Performance (PP) because the HD tape wasn't sticking without a lot of effort. I called the company but they didn't seem to know about it. I returned it directly to 3M anyway reminding them of the problem. I ordered the PP online but received HD Tape instead. I returned that order calling Staples to explain the discrepancy. The online description said Premium Performance but the SKU was Heavy Duty. I appears that the PP version was being discontinued and the HD had been upgraded and fixed. Early 2011 I bought a few rolls of the HD along with some other tapes in the store to see which would now work. Turns out the newer version of Heavy Duty works again! Hopefully we can continue to count on the Heavy Duty tape again for our future needs. So far so good.
