I work for a company that produces utility plans and traffic control plans for use in permit applications to various Southern California cities, counties and to Caltrans. Our work is fairly detailed and exacting in nature and, therefore, data dense. I recently upgraded my work station including the installation of a new hard drive. The Seagate Barracuda was exactly the right fit for my application. It was simple to install and all of my programs and applications installed easily and flawlessly. I've been using it now for some time and it has proven to be a very reliable component.

I installed it just in time so that I could clone an older failing Maxtor drive to this new Seagate drive. This drive is fast, quiet, reliable, doesn't generate excess heat, and is an extremely good value in terms of prices versus performance and capacity. I have used Seagate drives for years and have found their products to be very reliable.

This new Hard Drive was so easy to install and clone my old Hard Drive. It took very little time and my computer seems new again. Windows now loads 4 time faster with this new and much larger drive. I love it!

The people at Staples went above and beyond for me. I purchased, installed and then realized I didn't have the software CD for the drive. By the time I got back the store had JUST closed. I pleaded my case through the door and they let me in. Failing to find another drive with the CD in stock they tried to burn the software to a CD but it didn't work for some reason. They then pulled a thumb drive out of stock (which worked). They went way above and beyond to make me happy.

Of all the hard drives I've installed/used over the last 25, or so, years these were/are the worst. EVER.

TWO, count 'em TWO defective units in the same week, from the same store. One returned, the other goes back tomorrow.

There's nothing in the description about this being Windows 8(ME) compatible, but it is so stated on the box. Neither unit would work in a Windows 8 OS computer OR a Vista OS equipped computer. Drive was "visible" in BIOS and Device Manager/Disc Drives but never spooled up to operate or even load the software/drivers that is/are supposedly on them.

And yes, I've done this multiple times before and I tried a secondary power source from within each computer and the SATA ports power was turned on and I tried a different (known good) SATA cable.

I first blamed the no good, rotten, Windows 8 OS for the problem/s. But, when neither drive worked on a Vista OS I knew it was bad drives and not that lousy Windows 8.
