        Excellent Product

Comments about Steelmaster Lit-Ning® Steel Vertical Desk Organizer, 8 Tiers, Black:

Steelmaster vertical files are an excellent product. The main thing I like about them is that they are very durable and they remain functional and attractive for many years. They are worth the extra cost over the typical plastic products that crack or break and as a result look terrible and don't function well.

I purchased a Steelmaster vertical file with 8 compartments many years ago for a binder project, and although it is still in use, it is still like new. I had another binder project recently, and Staples had a good price on this 6-compartment Steelmaster vertical file, so I purchased two. My old one-inch binders fit perfectly in the slots of this new 6-compartment vertical file without crowding and without extra space. The binders stand upright and look good.

I bought some new binders for this new project. They are a tad narrower than my old binders, even though they are also one-inch binders. This may be because my new narrower binders are for economy storage and my old thicker binders are of better quality. These new narrower binders do not stand absolutely upright in the vertical file, since they do not quite fill up the space in the slot, but I corrected this minor problem by inserting a few manila file folders next to each binder, and now these new binders also stand absolutely upright.

Each of these Steelmaster vertical files measures appx. 11 3/8" wide (from side to side), appx. 11" in depth (from front to back), and appx. 8" in height (from top to bottom). In the photo, it looks like there are little prongs sticking out on the sides, but that is an illusion. The steel curves under the file to create a bar that supports the vertical file. The bar is flush with the sides, so nothing sticks out. Tiny stick-on "feet" come with the verticle file and can be affixed to this bar to prevent scratching your furniture.

As far using this vertical file as a book shelf, it is great for your reference books, such as your dictionary, thesaurus, secretarial manual, calendar booklet, goals planner, textbooks, computer books, and what have you. I am using one of my new Steelmaster vertical files this way now. If there is room on your desk, your book shelf is accessible while you are working.

Steelmaster also makes vertical step or incline files, which are great for manila file folders for your projects-in-process. This way, you can see the file folder tabs and labels for each folder. None get hidden behind others. I bought a plastic incline file (not from Staples). It broke right away. Now it looks terrible and has lost some of its functionality, so I wish I had bought a Steelmaster vertical incline file.

I highly recommend Steelmaster vertical files. The particular kind you buy would depend on the function you have in mind and the price you want to pay, but you won't go wrong on attractiveness and durability, as they last for years and still look fine.
