Needed a drive to replace a failing Home server. This drive integrated easily and provided a simple replacement for a failing Home Server.
Nice Product

I have several systems running XP Pro w/SP3; the supplied install CD was useless; so I have a couple of pointers:1. Go to the Western Digital website and obtain the latest version of install software.2. When performing your [large] file transfer, do it overnight & it will be ready for you in the morning on the NAS drive.
Very easy setup

The drive was very easy to set up on our network. excellent price also. Only with was that it had two hard drives in case this one would go down.

Not as Straight Forward as They Claim
By Bob
from Harvard, IL
The installation wasn't as straight forward as you are led to believe. I ended up having to call tech support because the device wouldn't start up properly only to learn that it must be connected to a router, not a switch.Once I got it up I found the transfer rates excruciatingly slow. The manual, which must be downloaded from the WD web site, informed me that I must use "giga-bit" routers to achieve any kind of acceptable transfer rate. This would mean an upgrade of my entire network.I also found the administration lacking. For one, it doesn't support userids with spaces which are allowed in Microsoft Windows. For another I ran into password protection issues. In one case I was forced to remove the password to be able to access the storage. In another, I was required to specify a password to access the storage. I have no explanation for the inconsistency.Software installation is also confusing with one type of interface software provided on the CD and an entirely different form of the software interface downloaded through the update. Also inconsistently accessible from the active tasks area.
