Not Worth the Price
By Math Teacher

I am a high school teacher and we bought three of these. Mine stopped working for no apparent reason. I thought for this type of money it would surely stand up to the test of students but it did not.

About Me Midrange Shopper
Bought sharpener in April for my classroom. Returned in April after it stopped working [...]Second one stopped working in September (actually only 2 "school months" later.) Since it had been more than 30 days, had to contact Elmers/X-ACTO for a replacement. #3 should arrive anyday now. Not holding out much hope that this one will last. Have been sharpening only #2 pencils. Disappointing!!!! Don't buy!!!

About Me Quality Oriented
I use this for lots of pencils on a daily basis in my classroom. It will last a long time if I don't let my young students use it. It sharpens pencils quickly and gives them a nice sharp point.
so far so good

I've had it about a month, and have had heavy use of it daily in my classroom. I don't let my students use it by themselves. I have to be the one who sharpens because they have gone through a half-dozen cheaper sharpeners in less than a year.
Great shapener, price unrealistic

We conducted testing on several different makes and models of pencil sharpeners in search of the "perfect" sharpener for the elementary school classroom. This one came in second place, and would have won if not for the price - it's just not going to last more than 2 or so years in a school environment and it's too prioey to replace that often. Quill's price is competitive with other vendors though, so it's not anything they can do something about. Below is a review from a classroom teacher:Ease of use by students: Very easy to useAmount of space: Large footprint - is ok if it has a designated spot but not recommended for a tight areaQuality of sharpen: Pencils are evenly sharpened to a nice point that does not break easilyUptime before motor overheats: Did not experience any overheating/auto shut off during the testing periodShavings capacity/ease of emptying: Large capacity, can be messy if it is very full when emptying. Will hold about one day's worth of shavings with heavy use.Durability: Survived several falls from 4ftVersatility: Can sharpen multiple sizes of pencilsNoise impact: NOT quiet, can be distracting if the room is silentTime from unsharpened to sharpened: "pretty quick", about 20 secondsOther observations from the teacher: The kids all sharpen at designated times instead of as needed, so it was important that the machine not overheat while students were still waiting in line. With up to 20 minutes of continuous use, the sharpener never once overheated and shut off. This sharpener is very loud. Even though it is big and heavy, my kids managed to knock it off the table 3 times and it survived all 3 falls with no damage other than the shavings container partially opening. If you let the sharpener get too full, the shavings will be all inside the blades when you go to open it and you will have a real mess on your hands.
I now have bought two of these!

Would not recommend This!!

I work at a school and I purchased 3 of what you call heavy duty pencil sharpeners for our office and teachers use; after a month the first one over heated and stopped working and after that the other 2 ate up the pencils, it would sharpen one side and not the other after that they stopped working. For that price, I would not recommend it!!
