Bought this for the 3rd grade classroom

About Me High-end Shopper
We purchase this sharpener for the 3rd grade classroom that my husband and I volunteer in. It has gotten a lot of use in the few weeks that it has been in the classroom. It works extremely well. It is very easy for the kids to use and sharpens all of their pencils to a nice point. It is heavy duty and seems to be built to last.
Worth the cost!

About Me Budget Shopper
This is the ONLY sharpener we've found that endures multiple pencil sharpenings in the classroom. We've tried the cheaper brands, and they break or don't sharpen properly the first month of school. This brand is totally worth the extra cost!
A Sharpener That Will Last

About Me Value Oriented
After going through two classroom pencil sharpeners in a year, I knew I needed a really durable one. This sharpener fits the bill. Works well and appears to be able to handle the demands of heavy use.
Don't waste your money.

We bought two of these pencil sharpeners for our classroom because the description reads "practically indestructible." After less than one year of use both sharpeners were "eating" pencils, but not sharpening at all. We were able to get replacements for them under the warranty. However, the replacements lasted about 6 months and they are doing the same thing. This is in a classroom of 30 students under daily usage. I would not recommend this sharpener for high usage. It may be great for home use, but not classroom use.
Students Thrilled by "cool" sharpener
By Teach

When the power went out we could still sharpen pencils! Bought one for school and one for home. Easy to install. Sharpens better and faster than any other sharpener (electric or manual) I've ever used. Most students had never seen any but electronic pencil sharpeners and were amazed that something without a motor was so useful and effective.

Not recommended especially in schools

This reflects usage in a 2nd and 3rd Grade public school classroom. The grip on the handle that turns the sharpener is too small and causes sore fingers. We sharpen Ticonderoga Laddie HB2 pencils and it constantly breaks the lead, forcing us to sharpen and sharpen and sharpen. We often stop sharpening because it is whittling down the pencil too much. Not recommended unless you have the patience and perhaps a touch to prevent pencil leads from breaking. Unfortunately the school invested in this model. It is new and sadly lacking in practicality.

Best I've Ever Used
By Cat

I am a substitute teacher and have used just about every pencil sharpener out there. My boys' school installed these and I've never seen anything like it. The Ranger eats through pencil lead like it's made of butter and leaves a smooth sharp point. Pencils are horribly made these days and I often have to throw out 25% of them because they sharpen on an angle and you can't get both lead AND a sharp point. With the Ranger I hardly ever have problems being able to get both. It's an expensive model and a bit blister forming if you're doing 200 pencils in a day since it's manual but I am in awe of its sharpening power.
