About Me Midrange Shopper
Comments about X-Acto Vortex Electric Pencil Sharpener:
The sharpener stopped working around the 1 year mark give or take. What gets me is I wasn't sharpening pencils very often.. Had our technician try to look into fixing it, but came up empty. Time to shop again.

20 pencils done and won't shave to the lead. Only good for a paper weight.

Awful Pencil Sharpener
By chance

Staples needs to stop carrying the product. The motor is very weak and loud. I typically spend about 2 minutes trying to sharpen one pencil. Results are uneven and jagged. Sad that it can't perform the only thing it's built for...sharpening pencils!!!!!

horrible, especially for the price

About Me Quality Oriented
I had to twist the pencil around, maneuver it around, so that it could get a decent edge (when the sharpener was new). Now, after about 25 pencils, the motor is still running, but it does not sharpen- meaning I have been trying to sharpen just one pencil, so far it's been 5 minutes of doing this, and its about half way sharpened. This sharpener disappoints me.

This sharpener lasted us about 1 week. Might be ok for personal use but definitely not durable enough for a construction company. Even as a personal sharpener, I would not buy again. Too loud.

stinks
By Jen

I hate this pencil sharpener. I've had it for about 8 months and it stinks. The motor runs, the pencil fits in and everything, but the results are very unsatisfactory: the pencil point breaks 60% of the time; you end up with just a wood (no lead) point 20% of the time; the pencil looks sharpened, but the lead ends up falling right out when you try to write with it 10% of the time; the pencil comes out with a dull point 7% of the time; and you get a decent point 3% of the time. Not what I expected when spending over $30 on a pencil sharpener. Dissapointing, frustrating junk.
Wasted Money

This sharpener is not used daily. I rarely use pencils, but when I need a pencil I need a sharp one. This X-acto is wrongly named. In fact, I find most electric AND manual sharpeners are of shoddy quality. It seems the manufacturers are bound and determined to offer what appeals to the eye but the inner workings are JUNK.
The worst! Broke after 2 pencils.

Doesn't even deserve one star!!! We sharpened two pencils and then it totally quit. What a waste. Unfortunately it was a gift from a student. I'm going to try to return it to Staples.
Shreds pencils rather than sharpening
By Techie prof

This pencil sharpener eats pencils, shaving wood off of one side of the point only. Many shavings don't fall into the shavings compartment to be emptied but instead jam the blades, which must be cleaned by reaching up into the machine to pull and brush them out. My son just shredded his new school pencils and I couldn't make it work any better, so it's back to back to school shopping for us. On the plus side,[...]. Wish they carried Panasonic, which so many other reviewers have recommended.
