Time is always precious in the mornings. Whether you’re a morning person or not, running out of time in the AM and skipping breakfast in favor of making sure you look presentable for work is bound to happen every once in a while. But it doesn’t have to. It’s possible to have time to read the morning news, drink your coffee, eat breakfast and still walk out of the house with flawless hair and makeup.
Getting enough sleep is essential not only for your health and productivity at work, but it also improves your skin’s elasticity, keeping it clear and youthful looking. That means you won’t need to layer on the makeup to mask how tired you are from getting up at the crack of dawn to do your makeup. Make sense? Your morning routine will go a lot smoother, and so will the rest of your day, if you start with this quick and easy makeup look.
Start with concealer. Use your finger or a beauty blender to apply HD concealer to dark under-eye circles and any other skin imperfections. Set concealer with neutral powder to make sure it lasts through your commute, every meeting, and all the way to happy hour.
Eyebrows are essential
Use an eyebrow pencil like NYX’s Micro Brow to fill in your eyebrows. Remember to draw them very naturally, with small strokes instead of hard lines. This step may take the longest, but the shape of your eyebrows has the potential to change your entire look. For work, you want to look natural and put together.
Time to lightly contour
To contour like a pro in less time, choose a product like Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Contour Palette, which combines all the shades you’ll need in one place. Use a beauty blender to apply the darker shade near your temples, right below your cheekbones and along your jawbone. Make sure to blend using circular motions and don’t forget to blend down towards your neck.
Next, use a small, fluffy brush to apply highlighter (also included in the Kat Von D palette) on your cheekbones, down the bridge of your nose, on the inner corners of your eyes, and on your brow bone, underneath your eyebrows.
Remember to check your makeup in natural light before you leave the house. Everything might look perfect under the yellow bathroom light, but sunlight will reveal blending mistakes you might have missed. Attention to detail is important considering going into a meeting with incomplete contouring wouldn’t make the best impression.
Focus on the eyes
Choose a nude eyeshadow to even out the skin tone on your eyelids – but avoid looking like you’re going out on the town. To finish up the look, curl your eyelashes and apply a coat of mascara to make your eyes pop.
Don’t forget the lips
Apply your favorite lip balm to complete the look and make sure your lips stay hydrated and protected from the sun.
With this simple makeup routine, not only will you be able to stay in bed longer, but you’ll also show up at the office looking fresh, rested and completely professional. Subscribe to Quill Café or follow us on social media for more tips on how to make the most of your time.
