Part of the reason open office plans were first introduced (in lieu of more private offices with doors) was simple: increased collaboration and interaction. As open cubicles and wall-less, communal desks have become more popular, companies have noted other benefits, including decreased cost, increased access to natural light, and more equality amongst workers of different levels.
