Copy machines for different workgroups

Copy equipment is available in many sizes, including large, multi-duty work centers that can churn out up to a million pages monthly for office complexes employing 100 or more users. Many smaller models are available as well, including those for single-person or small businesses with up to 5 users, or small or medium workgroups with 5 to 10 or more users. High-end photocopy machines can reproduce text and images in color. Most standard or compact models specialize in monochrome output.

The versatility of photocopy machines

As with many all-in-one printers that provide multiple functions beyond printing, many copy machines for small businesses or workgroups also serve as printers and scanners in addition to offering copy functionality. Copiers provide laser output with toner cartridges or inkjet output with ink cartridges. Like laser and inkjet printers, copy equipment with printer functionality offers different resolution ranges. Many single-user and compact machines provide sharp, saturated monochrome output of 2400 x 600 dpi at print speeds of up to 40 or more pages a minute. Most offer double-sided copying and printing, with different sheet capacities depending on the number of feeder trays they have, ranging from 250 to 1,000-sheet capacities. Many are also capable of collating multiple documents, convenient for organizational filing categorized with identifying label maker tape.

Connectivity

Most copy equipment is network and internet-ready, either with ethernet connectivity or 802.11 wireless protocol standards. As with some printers that include models that synch up with smartphones and tablets, many copy machines are compatible with mobile printing apps, including Apple® AirPrint®, Google Cloud Print™, Cortado cloud, and many others. Copy equipment also comes with USB ports for printing or copying from travel drive files, including PDFs, JPEGs, and TIFFs.

Other features

Single-person, small business, and workgroup copy machines offer several conveniences that are also available with large, work center copiers, including the following:

  • Reduction/enlargement ranges of 25 to 400 percent
  • Color touchscreen menus with multiple shortcut settings
  • Security features like user authentication, pin-activated printing, and network security protocols
  • Compatibility with a range of media, from plain and bond paper, including letterhead, to labels, card stock, and envelopes
