Quill Promo Video Filmed in Elementary School That Inspired Storyline

Quill’s “Every Order Tells a Story” campaign, running Aug 7 – Oct 28, follows individual orders from the fulfillment center to the customer and captures how Quill helped make their workplaces more rewarding. Episode Two takes you to a noisy classroom.

Susan Kurtz, a second grade teacher at Campbellsburg Elementary School (CES), has one simple hack for keeping a quieter classroom – tennis balls on the feet of her students’ desks and chairs. When new floors were installed throughout the school, Principal Amy Treece decided to employ this tactic in the updated classrooms.

It was Sharla Whitt, an administrative assistant and finance clerk at the Henry County Public Schools Board of Education, who reached out to Quill for a quote on the hundreds of tennis balls the school would need. She couldn’t have guessed this unusual request would spark an idea for a national commercial.

“I didn’t think much more about it, then in May I received an email from the creative director on Quill’s marketing team advising they would like to feature us in an upcoming campaign about their customers and unique purchases,” Whitt said. “I guess it’s not often that anyone has reached out to Quill for a quote on hundreds of tennis balls!”

Kurtz allowed the Quill team to use her classroom for the filming, and Quill’s creative team and CES worked together to prepare and enlist students and teachers to participate. Actors from CES included Stella Bailey, second grade, Olenah Bailey, third grade, Kylie Calhoun, third grade, and Matthew Blevins, third grade.

“I had a really fun time being part of the Quill commercial. It felt like being on the set of a movie. I liked that it was done at my school, in my classroom from last year,” Calhoun said. 

After the shoot, Quill donated all the tennis balls and other props to the school.
