When is hurricane season and where does it take place?
Hurricane season in the Atlantic basin which includes the entire east coast of the United States and west through Texas peaks on Sept. 10, with most activity occurring mid-August through mid-October. Eastern Pacific Hurricane season starts earlier and lasts from May 15 through November 30th.
Understanding hurricane risks and being prepared

First, create and practice your family safety plan. What should your plan include?
Your plans should include routes to evacuate safely and on time. Stay informed by local authorities and follow weather information on an emergency radio. Make sure everyone in your immediate household knows and understands your plan. Finding safe shelter out of the high winds, rain, and other elements hurricanes can produce is your main objective.
Hurricane Supplies Checklist
On top of understanding the risks, you’re going to need the following supplies in your hurricane kit ready to go when the time comes to evacuate or shelter in place.
- Emergency radio and weather alert radio
- Stay in power with Batteries and battery backups
- Flashlights allow you see and be seen
- Stay hydrated with bottled water
- Update your First aid supplies
- Stock up on Non-Perishable Food
- Use a Waterproof container for important documents, cash, etc.
