Different types of glue have special formulas for specific applications. Glue for small interior renovations, woodworking projects, and furniture repairs are usually either white or yellow liquid paste adhesives, also called carpenter’s glue. Although super glue is also useful for adhering wood surfaces, the primary application of white carpenter’s glue, consisting of polyvinyl acetates (PVA), and yellow carpenter’s glue, consisting of aliphatic resin compounds, is to create water-resistant, long-term bonds between wood substrates. Each offers overnight drying times after material clamping, and users can scrape or sand it after it dries without chipping. People can also paint or stain the glued surfaces with no color alteration. Glue comes in handy squeeze bottles to control the flow, or in gallon containers for filling squeeze bottles with different tips.
Other glue for wood-related projects
Many whites glue types, such as Elmer’s® school glue and Elmer’s Glue-All®, are also ideal for bonding wood pieces together, largely as part of arts and crafts projects at school or household projects at home. You can use the glue as an adhesive for bonding different materials together, including paper, fabric, leather, and ceramics, or for bonding some of these pieces to wood.
Super glue and other adhesives for a variety of substrates
Cyanoacrylate adhesives, known as super glue, are liquid-based options that dry clear. A popular choice is Krazy® Glue, an Elmer’s Glue brand, but many other options of the super adhesives come from Loctite®, Gorilla Glue®, and Scotch™. These glue types bond a wide variety of materials together quickly, and many balsa-wood modelers prefer them for their adhesive strength and precision applicators. They are also suitable for bonding materials like stone, metal, ceramic, glass, and cardboard. Other wood-related glue includes spray and gel adhesives, as well as glue sticks for hot and low-temp glue guns and adhesive-based sealants.
