Choose between analog and VoIP 4-line phone systems

Users of a 4-line business phone system have a choice between a traditional analog phone or a digital VoIP solution. Analog office phones connect to physical telephone lines using a RJ11 or RJ14C plug connector. Each analog line is a separate physical line. VoIP phones work over the internet and connect with a RJ45 Ethernet cable. Each connection supports several VoIP lines simultaneously. Both systems offer similar features and are internet compatible.

Add multiple extensions

The base station of a 4-line office phone system acts as the hub and controls several remote extensions. Most systems handle up to 16 handsets, including the base station.

Remote phones may be digital or analog. Analog handsets use two- or four-core telephone cables for easy connection. Digital phones use a RJ45 Ethernet cable, which is compatible with other computer systems on site. Each remote handset has a unique extension number allocated to it by the base station and automated handset detection systems simplify system setup.

Deciding between corded and wireless handsets

A 4-line cordless phone system needs no physical connection to the base station, but uses a wireless signal based on the DECT™ 6.0 system. This means users of cordless phones are free to roam, provided they remain within range of the wireless signal. Batteries provide several hours of use between charges, so cordless phones are suitable for employees who are frequently away from their offices.

Because corded phones are physically connected to the base station by analog or internet cables, they’re a good choice for businesses spread over a large area.  Handsets of 4-line corded phone systems reflect a traditional design, including a desktop cradle and a corded headset.
