Bulletin bars in natural cork

The bars are the sleeker cousins to bulletin boards, and many people also know them as cork strips, message bars, map rails, or bulletin borders. Most high-quality bulletin board bars consist of natural cork, which has inherent properties that make it an ideal surface for pinning and re-pinning paper and other material. One is that cork has a minute cellular structure that gives it the pliability to self-seal after removing a pin from its interior, so the bars don’t leave behind holes. Another is that the cell structure holds up well to external elements; not only to moisture and air, but also to objects like pins. Thus, cork is fade resistant, remains intact after frequent use, and lasts a long time without breaking down or falling apart.

Bulletin board bars are useful anywhere

Most cork strips attach to surfaces either with screws or with self-adhesive backings, so they fasten vertically or horizontally, whether on walls or around presentation and display boards and easels. Self-sealing bulletin bars also come in different lengths, normally 18, 24, and 48 inches long, and they have removable end caps so the strips can connect as necessary to form even longer lengths. You can hang them on walls in a series of rows to provide step-by-step instruction illustrations or to see whether page formats of project reports are visually appealing. Short strips are useful anywhere for attaching memos, notices, or even thoughts for the day, or for personalizing private office space with posters or photographs. The cork bars are also ideal with presentation panels for attaching supplemental graphs, illustrations, or points of emphasis.

Cork bulletin bars have attractive frames

As with office furniture that should accent and complement interior decor, the narrow cork strips, normally just an inch or so wide, have frames with various materials that add style to their functionality:

  • Anodized aluminum for a brushed, translucent metallic look
  • Rich hardwoods like oak or cherry for a more elegant, traditional appearance
  • Black, gray, and other enameled laminates for a more universal, contemporary appeal

All framed bulletin bars are narrow and sleek enough, that when not in use for attaching materials, they look like trim pieces of decor.
