Choose the right clear glue for the project

Choosing a clear glue is as important as selecting the right crafting tools to complete a project. For example, liquid glue and glue sticks and gel glue are all suitable for different projects. Certain factors also need considering, from what materials need bonding together, to who will use the glue, and how will it be treated once finished.

Most clear glue is suitable for use with paper, but photographs need an acid-free formula to protect them from damage, a glue stick is popular for this type of work. A clear liquid adhesive for porous materials and wood repairs like the ones from Scotch® is popular because it’s sandable and paintable once dry, so all repairs become invisible. For children or extended periods of use, use a glue that will help keep headaches and allergies away, look for low odor or nontoxic on the label, or explore Elmer’s® Naturals range or Elmer school glues. Clear super glues for ceramics that are dishwasher-safe are useful for those accidents with a favorite mug.

Versatile applicators

Applicators come in many shapes and sizes, so finding the right applicator on the clear glue for a project is easy. Applicator types include:

  • Long nose applicator
  • Twist up sticks, good for scrapbooks
  • Roll-on for easy use
  • Wide nose for a big project
  • Brush on for a smooth application
  • Dab on for those smaller jobs
  • Precision applicator for delicate uses
  • Twin tips, or two-way tips, for different projects

Keep in mind the user and use of the glue to match each project as well as application.

Getting the most from your glue

Knowing how to store glue is important, clear glue will last up to two years if looked after and stored correctly. Glues made with synthesized chemicals, need to be kept away from heat sources. Also, if the water inside the glue prematurely evaporates due to a hot environment, the glue will harden. Removing a blockage is easy with the help of a paper clip or toothpick. Some blockages benefit from the cap being submerged in warm water for a while first.
