Coated Flap Disc Abrasives  (2 Products)
Sort By:
Flap disc abrasives grind and polish materials until they're in a presentable state. Coated abrasives allow for faster grain removal while simultaneously grinding and finishing at the same time. The flap wheel abrasive is easy to install and switch out, with grit numbers of varying intensity determining which wheel is appropriate for a specific job. Read More

Want to know more about Coated Flap Disc Abrasives

Flap disc abrasives work on many materials

Coated abrasives are usable on wood, metal, and plastic, although some models are more effective with harder metals than others. With the right tools/MRO supplies though, these units can deflash, weld blend, and contour edges with ease. These models are free of contaminants, which makes them ideal for work with sensitive materials like some woods and plastics.

Coated abrasives are easy to install and store

The abrasive cutting disc attaches to a hub for use, making it a simple task to switch out as needed. The long shelf life of these units ensures that they don’t require a high level of maintenance and store away when the work is done. Special resin bonds improve cutting capacity and also make the unit more resilient. This allows them to work on heavy-duty applications and then leave any leftover waste for a cleaning brush to take care of.

Abrasive disc brushes improve efficiency

The flap wheel abrasive works by smoothing materials and removing grains or beads from previous steps in the project. This streamlines the workflow and reduces finishing time on complex jobs. Each grinder has a grit value, which indicates how fine its smoothing capabilities are and which materials it’s best equipped to deal with. Users should consider the grit value of abrasives and brushes before selecting one for work. Similarly, brushes have varying levels of effectiveness depending on several design factors:

  • Backing material
  • Abrasive material
  • Diameter
  • Arbor size

One common backing material is cotton although there are also models that use paper or plastic. Many models use zirconia alumina as the primary abrasive material, but the grit value still varies. The preferred diameter and arbor size ultimately depend on the scope of the project and the tools available. Work faster and more effectively by using a disc abrasive to accomplish multiple project goals at once.
