How FriXion erasable pens work
Pilot FriXion retractable erasable pens use different ink from traditional gel pens. They contain temperature-sensitive, acid-based gel ink. This means that the chemicals in the ink react to heat. When heat is applied, it activates the acid, which neutralizes the pigment so color disappears. All words become invisible to the eye. The hard rubber eraser creates the required heat using friction when you rub it across the paper over the printed words. Any type of heat can “erase” the ink, including a hair dryer or direct sunlight. The opposite can also occur when the ink becomes cold. Words will reappear in temperatures below -14 degrees Fahrenheit. It’s possible to erase the ink in the same area repeatedly without smudges or faded letters.
