HP LaserJet 500 color M551 printers and smart cartridges
Most HP printer cartridges contain smart chips to sync with their printer units for specific print commands. The HP LaserJet 500 M551 printer works with HP 507 toner cartridges and the fuser kit that heats the toner on the integrated cartridge drum to transfer characters and images electrostatically onto media.
The M551 is part of HP’s LaserJet Enterprise series and comes in three separate models, each using four cartridges of cyan, magenta, yellow, and black toner. The cartridges and printer are ideal for busy office settings, printing up to 33 pages a minute in letter-size paper. Cartridges sync with the printers to adjust the highlight, mid-tone, and shadow density of their toner output. Color cartridges work in several resolution settings as well, including normal, vivid, and photo. They can also adapt to edge-control commands to make image and photo edges sharper with half-toning.
Fuser kits and toner collection units
Several printer parts and accessories come with laser models. The HP 507A toner in the M551 Enterprise models use combination toner-reservoir and drum-transfer cartridges. However, M551 fuser kits, to heat the toner for drum transfer, are available separately, as are toner collection units that gather waste particles that don’t cling electrostatically to the paper.
The toner cartridges and the media they handle
Toner consists of fine powder, primarily pigmented polyester, that melts onto the paper surface. As it bonds to paper, it leaves a full layer of bold, sharp monochrome text and accurate, full-color imaging. Impressive page yields for busy workplaces
One of differences between ink and toner is that toner cartridges provide higher page volumes. The standard HP 507A toner cartridges offer up to 5,500 pages per cartridge in black, and up to 6,000 pages per cartridge in each color. A high-yield HP 507X black cartridge is available to increase the monochrome output to 11,000 pages per cartridge.
