Laser technology entails heating powdered cartridge-toner particles with a fuser assembly, and then transferring them electrostatically onto a drum unit that imprints the toner onto printer paper and other media in the form of text, characters, and images. HP LaserJet P3005 toner is a proprietary formula that works with the P3005 series printers to create varied monochrome resolutions and perform printing at high speeds, up to 33 pages per minute (ppm). The cartridges also yield high-resolution printing at 1200 dots per inch (dpi), working with HP REt and PRORes technologies to sharpen or smooth edgings on line drawings.

Various ink and toner cartridges work specifically with different media, depending on the capabilities of the printer. The LaserJet 3005 series is ideal for high-volume business reports, proposals, and any other projects with a heavy emphasis on text. The cartridges also print on transparencies for projector presentations and on heavyweight or rough paper for report covers, as well as on a variety of envelopes and labels.

HP LaserJet P3005 toner and high-volume page yields

Like most HP printer cartridges, HP toner cartridges for the P3005 series come in versions offering different page yields per cartridge. A standard-yield cartridge, designated as HP 51A, offers up to 6,500 pages per cartridge. High-capacity HP 51X toner cartridges offer up to 13,000 pages per cartridge. Comparable-quality remanufactured cartridges in each version are also available, as are extra-high yield cartridges that offer up to 20,000 pages per cartridge. Other non-HP 51A and 51X cartridges come with a special magnetic ink character recognition (MICR) toner, which prints characters and codes on sensitive documents, such as checks.
